Long day

Refusing to take your afternoon nap can make for a very long day. No,
he's not sleeping. He just needed to rest his little head and decided
the doormat looked comfy.

Carter's blueberries

Auntie Lindsey was over the other day playing with Carter in the backyard. He was in and out of the pool and we decided to finally just take off his diaper. Oh how this child loves to be naked! He ran all over the backyard and found the blueberry bush that Grandpa Roger gave us earlier this year. He must have known just what they were because she started eating blueberries right off the bush. Auntie gave him a little branch and told him to take it to mommy so that I could inspect the berries before he ate them. This photo was taken and sent to Grandpa with the title " Grandpa, look at my blueberries!"

Bad mom?

Ok, please feel free to weigh-in on this.

Carter is in that small 20% of kids his age that still NEEDS a morning nap. I'm not forcing it by any means. After about 2 to 2 1/2 hours of being awake, I ask if he is ready for a nap and he almost always walks himself over to the baby gate and we go upstairs and down he goes. He naps about an hour and a half each morning.

He also naps for an hour to 2 hours every afternoon.

That said, I've been trying to schedule more activities with kids his age. Here is the problem. They pretty much are always scheduled for 10:30 and we usually need 20 - 30 minutes to get there. This seems to always mean that I have to wake him from his nap. Sure, he gets a good hour in, but I HATE to wake him.

So.... do I wake him so that I can take him to these "fun" activities (I say "fun" because sometimes they aren't fun with a toddler who has been woken up from his nap) or, do I let him sleep since he seems to need it??

FYI: This morning I decided to wake him. I went in and did the "C'mon little man, time to get up" and he didn't so much as stir so, I then changed my mind and ran from the room. He's been asleep another 15 minutes so far...

Summer in Vancouver/Portland

Weatherman: Expect a high of 82 today!

Translation: it is going to be freezing until 3:30 when the sun will finally come out and we will reach 69* at 4 p.m.

According to Wunderground.com:

Today @ 8am: 54*
Today @ noon: 58*
Today @4 pm: 69*

Still waiting on that 82.

I know, our weathermen are right about 90% of the time, but that is because they usually just get to say "it will rain today." This whole sun thing - it's throwing them off.

5 guys

Carter and I decided to try out the new "restaurant" near our house today. It's called "5 Guys burger and Fries" and I should have known something was wrong when I saw all the awards they were boasting the minute I walked in the door. Seriously, all over the walls and even their cups, were lists of awards for best burger or best fries.

I don't know who gave them these awards or if they made them up, but this was the worst burger I've ever tried to eat. I would seriously take McDonald's over this burger. The fries were edible, but nothing to write home about. Since the burger was gross, Carter ate quite a few fries, but I think it was mostly because he is so in to dipping these days. - Check out his people watching skills. So sly! They'll never notice him watching them.

Carter got to spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa this weekend and Grandpa Roger sent along this little video. Looks like father like son like father like son (Chris really enjoyed helping at Stayton Builders Mart too when he was growing up).

He gets so distracted with Grandma mentions Pat, the Hammer.

untitled

I've sat down to write this post a few times and have given up quickly. With the last miscarriage, I was so much more forgiving. We decided that God knows best and he did after all, already bless us with Carter so, we knew we just needed to be patient. 1 in 5 women have a miscarriage and both being perfectly healthy, it never occurred to us that it would happen again. We're in our 20s for goodness sake!

That said, this pregnancy was much like the last. I was exhausted yes, but that was it. I was told by friends, family and nurses to be thankful that I didn't have to deal with any pregnancy symptoms. I probably would have been - just like I was last time - except that this time I wasn't ignorant. This time, we knew something wasn't right.

After having an ultrasound at 7 weeks and hearing its little heartbeat, we made ourselves get excited as nervous as we were. The chance of a miscarriage after hearing a heartbeat at 7 weeks is only 10% and our chances were even lower since we had already had a miscarriage. So, we started sharing our news and each time, it just didn't quite feel right. We made ourselves start talking about names to try to get us more excited and less worried.

Just a little after 9 weeks, I had some spotting and immediately knew what was about to happen. For 2 days, nurses were telling me that it was completely normal and not to worry. I however, am my mother's daughter so, worry is my maiden name. On the 3rd day I insisted on an ultrasound to which the rude nurse told me she would "try" to get permission for. I was scheduled for the next day and Chris was going to go with me until they called and changed the appointment when the technician called in sick. He couldn't leave the office so, I went it alone and the technician confirmed what I already knew.

OK. I'll try to end this post on a positive note....

I am thankful that Chris was in town and able to be with me since just hours later he was scheduled to fly out of town for the weekend.
I am thankful that we have already been blessed with a healthy baby.
I'm thankful that I didn't require surgery.

unpacking

Really. Honestly. I WOULD unpack. It's just... well, Carter needs another place to sit and watch TV.

Cousin Lovin'

Oh my goodness! Did we have a fun weekend or what?! Looking back, we didn't do too much, probably 85% of our time was spent just watching Carter and Isabelle play, but it was so much fun.

One of the highlights for me - TJ and Storm made a nice dinner and we actually got eat it, pretty much baby-free that is. While perfect little Bronson slept with all his might, our "big kids" sat themselves at their own table, with their own milk, and fed themselves their own mac-n-cheese. Thank you very much!

Carter also took an interest in Isabelle's "time out" bench. Apparently Isabelle likes it as well and will sometimes move it to watch TV. I guess we need a bit more work on the proper use of a time out bench....

Grandma Cupcake was also able to come for breakfast one morning. I know - horrible photo, I stupidly forgot my camera, THANK GOODNESS Grandma Cupcake took some great photos that she will share!

This was the little cutie that Carter had his eye on during our flight home. There was a little hand touching, but alas, we had to deplane.

*******Mona Update********

While we were in Reno spending time with the Buxtons, we took advantage of being so close to Tahoe and ran up there to visit our first born, Mona. No tears. She is far more spoiled in her new home than we could have ever imagined!!!

See the pool? Yep, it is for her. She needs to keep cool after all.

She looks like she weighs about a pound more than when we saw her last which is likely due to the amazing food that is cooked for her and her hair is grown out a bit, but it is still our sweet little Mona. And no, she still wasn't too keen on Carter.

Play time

We are down in Reno and Carter and Isabelle are having a blast with
each other. They keep taking turns "baking" food for each other. Here,
Isabelle is tasting Carter's cupcakes.

Boating

Carter had a great time in grandpa's boat yesterday watching daddy
waterski. This morning, grandpa told him if he put on his lifejacket,
we'd go in the boat. So, Carter quickly put it on. Too bad we weren't
quite ready to go on the boat.
